Nick Dogoda, upon being informed that he had been described as “unworldly” in a comment on George Orwell’s blog, began to calculate: Could he define “un” in this context!?! Or would this latest event be the first in an eventual avalanche of nodules? Stay tuned…..
Later that day…..
First, let me say that I did not realize so many machines are still running IE6 which does not recognize the transparency in PNG images and that’s why my website is looking “unworldly” to some. IE7 and above and all other browsers are okay with PNGs.
I would very much like to suggest that, if possible, you upgrade to IE7 which catches up with much of what the rest of the web has been enjoying for quite a while. IE8 is in Beta2 already, by the way.
I don’t use Windows or IE. I’ve used Firefox and Thunderbird exclusively since they became available; eventually, all of my apps were Open Source and I went 100% Open Source on Linux Ubuntu about a year agoYes, it’s true, I wiped my hard drive clean, spat upon the restore disc and ground it into the concrete slab with my heel.
Anyway, all this means is that I will have to use a script to detect the browser in use and then switch CSS files accordingly, which may or may not be slower but, hopefully, will be as pleasant if it is even pleasant in the first place. This also means that I did not properly test my site; IEx only runs on Windows and so it was hard for me to get a look at the site from that perspective without having to go to the library or something. I have now discovered the methodology.
Please, come back. I should have it tidied up this weekend. IE6 makes it look hideous and it isn’t. Honest. Thanx
